University cooperation

Kitee Upper Secondary School cooperates with the University of Eastern Finland and Karelia University of Applied Sciences.

Higher education studies are accredited in the general upper secondary school syllabus with 1.5–2 study credits corresponding to one course in general upper secondary school.

Karelia University of Applied Sciences offers Väyläopinnot studies to students at Kitee Upper Secondary School. These studies are free of charge: you will only have to pay a certificate fee of €10 if you complete the test for a certificate of proficiency in food hygiene [Hygiene passport] or similar. The Hygiene passport (available for all) and an alcohol proficiency certificate [Anniskelupassi] (available for people aged 18 or over) are useful when applying for summer jobs. Moreover, you can improve your competence in Swedish on the Svensk klinik course.

Open courses offered by the University of Eastern Finland are available to all students. Kitee Upper Secondary School pays for your course fee, if you complete studies at the open university of the University of Eastern Finland during your studies at the general upper secondary school. Studies at the open university or open university of applied sciences provide you with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of things that interest you. Moreover, the studies give you an insight into different fields, which may help you when choosing a place for your further studies. Some of the studies are specifically intended as a sort of taster to shed light on what studies are all about in a particular field.
