Mires

Mires are wetland ecosystems with peat-forming plants and berries. Many birds nest in mires and find food in the wetlands.

The Finnish wetland nature is exceptionally diverse. Mires have their own unique flora and fauna, and natural mires have a significant role in combating climate change, retaining rainwater and preventing flooding.

Partiissuo

Partiissuo is an extensive raised bog in its natural state, surrounded by hills in the north-western part of Kitee. The mire is home to a diverse range of bird species, and it is also an important area for berry-picking and research purposes.

Kuolemanlammensuo

The Kuolemanlampi mire is located in Kesälahti, by main road 6, near the Uukuniemi crossroads. There is a birdwatching tower in the area, and a small wooden platform on the outskirts of the mire.
